Mamburam Maqam

Mamburam Maqam (Mamburam Maqam/Dargah) is a renowned spiritual and historical pilgrimage center located near Tirurangadi in Malappuram district, on the banks of the Kadalundi River (Abdurahiman Nagar Panchayat).

Key Features and History:

  • Spiritual Leadership: The shrines (maqbaras) of the Sufi saints who came to Malabar from Hadhramaut in Yemen, Sayyid Hassan Jifri (RA), his nephew and great spiritual leader Qutubussaman Sayyid Alavi Thangal (Mamburam Thangal), and their family members are situated here.

  • Freedom Struggle and Anti-Imperialism: Mamburam was a major center of anti-colonial struggles that inspired the people of Malabar to unite and fight against British foreign rule. Revolutionary leaders like Ali Musliyar and Variyan Kunnath Kunjahammed Haji maintained an inseparable bond with this maqam.

  • Symbol of Religious Harmony: Thousands of people visit here daily regardless of caste or religion. The traditional practice of seeking blessings from the Mamburam Maqam before commencing festival rituals at the nearby Kaliattakkavu Devi Temple is a great example of the harmonious atmosphere here.

  • Aandu Nercha (Uroos): In connection with the Wafat (demise) anniversary of Mamburam Thangal, the 'Mamburam Aandu Nercha' (Uroos) is conducted on a very grand scale every year from the 1st to the 7th of Muharram.

The management committee of Darul Huda Islamic University, currently operating with its center at Chemmad, holds the administrative responsibility of the Maqam.
