Operation Toofan 2.0
Operation Toofan 2.0' is a comprehensive popular defense project jointly implemented by the Home and Local Self-Government Departments to take strict action against the drug mafia in Kerala. The main objective of this second-phase project is to completely eradicate drug use and trade in the state by ensuring public participation alongside the legal actions of the police and excise departments. Key Features and Objectives: * Ward-level Vigilance Committees: Strengthening and expanding anti-drug popular committees in all wards across Kerala (20,999 wards). These committees operate with the ward member/councillor as chairman and the school headmaster/senior teacher as convener. * Toofan Warriors and Thunder Volunteers: Special trained 'Toofan Warriors' and 'Thunder Volunteers' have been selected in each ward to monitor drug-related activities locally and pass confidential information to the police and excise. * Treatment and Rehabilitation: Identifying drug addicts and ensuring proper counseling and rehabilitation through the Excise Department's 'Vimukthi' de-addiction centers. * Awareness: Organizing various awareness programs and gram sabhas with the cooperation of schools, colleges, and Kudumbashree units under the slogan 'I am the guard of my land'. * Helplines: Toll-free numbers, WhatsApp helplines, and QR codes have been set up for the public to secretly report information about drug sales to authorities. This project leads the state towards the goal of a 'drug-free family, drug-free school, drug-free ward, and drug-free Kerala'.
